A Dating Experiment: Asian Guy Versus White Guy

6 Posted by - January 6, 2014 - Articles, Media

Elliott and I have thrown around the idea of putting something up on the site about race and dating. We wanted to avoid the tired narrative of the Asian man crying foul, so instead we tried a little experiment: two online dating accounts, one of a white guy, and one of an Asian guy. We made them virtually the same with only their pictures being different. We wanted to see if our Asian guy would get a lot less attention from the honeys, just by virtue of his race. We left the profiles up for about a week and let’s just say we got some interesting and unexpected results. Check out the video of our little experiment.

Update: 1/10/14 (Week 3)

  • Asian Guy: 44 visitors, 3 messages
  • White Guy: 11 visitors, 1 message

The Asian guy is way cuter.

The Asian guy’s picture is also better. What about making comparable pictures of comparably attractive guys?

Maybe we could setup an all female panel to determine comparable attractiveness levels before conducting another attempt at this experiment :). Ideally we could average it out by using a larger sample size of men divided by race.
